Egyptian Gods

Their history of makeup

Makeup was invented 12,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt worn by Ancient Egyptians and is at its most popular today. Why do women and males wear makeup you may ask? Women and male wore makeup because they wanted to look good, they wanted to hide imperfections and enhance their facial features such as jaw bone, cheek bone, nose structure. Ancient Egyptians mainly wore makeup to impress the Gods, women felt that they needed to impress the Gods because they believed their beauty related to spiritual worth. When people think of makeup they automatically assume it was made for women, but makeup is for both women and men they both wore it to look good for themselves and for what they believed in. Which relates to the idea of ancient Egyptians wearing makeup to please their God in which they believed in. They also believed it gave them protection of the Gods Horus and Ra. Ancient Egyptians were very strict to which God they believed in and why. The makeup was made differently from way back when the Egyptians wore it to how people wear it now. The makeup made back when ancient Egyptians wore it was made up of malachite and galena into a substance called Kohl. Now makeup is made up of a common ingredient called tallow. There were over 2,000 names of god in Ancient Egyptians and they believed in only a very few which were Ra, Anubis, Horus,God of chaos,Isis,Amun, Seth and Geb. Goddess Ra was known as the sun of god , he was the lord of all gods Ra sailed across the heavens in a boat called the barque of millions of years. At the end of each day Ra was thought to die and sailed on his night voyage through the underworld , leaving the moon to light the world above. Anubis was known for guiding the dead to the next life via the court of Osiris in the underworld. He was the one who looked after the mummification process. These god’s were very important to the Ancient Egyptian, they used makeup to represent each god .

Thesis:Applying cosmetics and creating makeup has changed dramatically since the Ancient Egyptians, their aesthetic and how it was produced is where modern day makeup began.

Here are some improvements of Egyptian makeup

The eye of Horus an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health. This symbol is also known as the all seeing eye. Horus was brought into Egypt during the predynastic period. He seems to have begun as a god of war and a sky god who was married to Hathor, but soon became considered as the opponent of Set, the son of Ra, and later the son of Osiris. He was worshiped from at least the late prehistoric Egypt until the Ptolemaic Kingdom and Roman Egypt. Different forms of Horus are recorded in history and these are treated as distinct gods by Egyptologists.

This is also another picture that represents the all seeing eye using.

This is the eye of Horus thousands of years ago. The eye of Horus represents an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health.
